Community Helpers Visit OHUMC Preschool!

Throughout the month of February, OHUMC has been talking about community helpers.  They have really gone above and beyond to make this a special month for our kiddos.  The best part was having some of the amazing and wonderful community helpers come to the school to talk to the children.  These have included a dental hygienist, a pediatrician, an interpreter for the deaf, the church facilities manager (he brought a bunch of neat tools), a Lieutenant in the armed forces, and last, but not least, the Austin Fire Department!  I know each one of these community helpers had a huge impact on all of our children.  I loved hearing from mostly Sienna (and a little from Colton) about all of the neat things they showed them!  I also had the opportunity to substitute for Ms. Jennifer the day that the fire dept. came to visit.  So, of course, I took my camera!

Colton's class is ready for the fire department!
They had made paper fire hats that were really cute, but a little big!
Sienna's class anxiously waits as well...
And here they are!  They began by talking about what firefighters do.  Then, one of the firemen demonstrated how they put on their fire suit!

They emphasized that the children should not be afraid of firefighters.  They are there to help!

He even showed them how they crawl around to avoid all of the smoke that rises.
Hi-five anyone?
Colton's eyes were glued to the fireman.

Sienna's class picture.  I don't have one yet of Colton's class, b/c they asked me to be in it!
Time to take a tour of the fire truck!
Colton loved the inside of the fire truck!

Valentine's Day Celebrations!

It seems like Christmas was just yesterday and here we are and it's Valentine's Day already!  Sienna and Colton have been very excited about Valentine's Day because they get to have a party at school and give all of their friends valentines!  So, to kick off this loving holiday, we took Sienna and Colton to meet one of their favorite characters, Elmo.  He was making an appearance at a small toy store and we just had to go and meet him!  They loved getting to meet and hug Elmo, so phase 1 of our valentine's day celebration was a success!  Phase II, of course, was their school party and valentine exchange.  They got lots of yummy treats and they each got to give their friends the valentines they had made.  And last, but not least, was the Daddy/Daughter dance that took place at Lifetime the weekend after Valentine's Day.  Sienna and her Daddy went last year as well and she absolutely LOVED it!  So, when she started seeing the signs up for this year's dance, she got so excited!  She couldn't wait to pick out a dress, get her hair done (by me of course), and even put on the tiniest bit of make-up (clear lip gloss and a little blush).  Boy, are we in trouble when she becomes a teenager!  Anyhow, while Sienna and her Daddy were dancing the night away, Colton and I decided to go on a date of our own.  We headed over to Kerbey Lane for some delicious pancakes!  And how did Mommy and Daddy spend Valentine's Day, you ask?  Well, we cooked a nice dinner at home and included the other two loves of our lives!

Taking a picture with Elmo!
The valentines that Sienna put together.
I had to take a picture of the back b/c Sienna wrote all of the names by herself!

"I had such a fun day!"

Showing me the gift she made for us!  Such a cute idea!
She also had a valentine to give me that she made in class.
We decided to play on the playground for a little while and Colton was showing me the balls.
"I can't hang on much longer!"
The sun was literally right behind Sienna!

It was a Masquerade Ball so they got masks to wear!

1st Attempt at Potty Training

So, the other day, I decided to bring up the topic of potty training with Colton.  Sienna, bless her heart, was also doing her best to get Colton interested in using the potty.  She even gave him demonstrations, each time explaining carefully what she was doing.  Colton seemed rather unimpressed.  So, I asked him if he wanted to use the big boy potty.  He said, "No."  I said, "Big boys use the potty.  Are you a big boy or a baby boy?"  He said, "Big boy."  So I said, "Okay, then will you try to use the potty?"  He said, "NO!"  Then I showed him the training underpants I got him that have trucks on them.  I said, "Do you want to put these on?"  He said, "No, diaper!"  Then, he ran off laughing!  This is not going to be easy!
